The wheels in the 2023 season have not turned yet but there is plenty to talk about already. The event giving us a topic to debate is the Aston Martin livery launch. The Silverstone-based outfit unveiled its 2023 challenger called the AMR23. Soon after the unveiling, there were comparisons being drawn to the Red Bull RB19. This is not a new controversy in the world of Formula 1 as the British team was accused of similar behavior in 2022. Let’s take a look if these claims have any substance.
According to a report published by the news outlet The Race there are striking similarities between the RB19 and AMR23. Given Red Bull and Ferrari’s superiority in 2022, most 2023 F1 cars have sidepods that are a cross of the two teams. However, looking at the AMR23, it’s similar to the RB19. Obviously, under the hood, all cars are a little bit different. However, from the outside looking in, the AMR23 is extremely similar to the Red Bull.

The report published by The Race details various aspects of the car that are similar. The sidepods design, the front wing, and the front suspension, among others, are all similar to the RB19.
These similarities are similar to those in 2022 which earned Aston Martin AMR22 the infamous “Green Red Bull” nickname. Teasing aside, the championship-winning team did not take the similar-looking Aston Martin lightly and filed a complaint against the team.
Aston Martin got a clean chit from any wrongdoing after a thorough investigation conducted by the FIA. Despite that, the grieving team launched an internal investigation to find the mole and plug the leak. Although, there could be one explanation.

A few of Red Bull’s engineers, most notably Dan Fallows, switched sides over the winters to Aston Martin. Fallows joined Red Bull in 2006 and stayed with the team till April 2022. Fallows left his post in Milton Keynes as the Chief Engineer – Aerodynamics.
Following the “Green Red Bull” controversy, the boss, Christian Horner, suggested it could be a byproduct of a change in personnel. As quoted by BBC, Horner said, “A few people have moved over the winter period, and what you can’t control is what they take in their heads.”
