Carlos Sainz is the Smooth Operator of F1. Sainz joined Ferrari in 2021, fulfilling his dream to drive for the Scuderia. While Sainz had a strong first season, he suffered a rather mellow year in 2022. As his teammate, Charles Leclerc was consistently challenging for wins. However, Sainz has some spicy humor if asked about the season’s best moments.

As the 2022 season has come to a close, everyone is in season review mode and reliving the best moments of the year. Now, Sainz is aware that his performances in 2022 weren’t impressive. He involved himself in some friendly banter.
On the official F1 Instagram page, the admin posted about asking people, “Who impressed you the most?” To this, Sainz hilariously replied “The Debris”. Fans have gone frantic over Sainz’s witty humor, as he had already referred to Dutch driver Nyck de Vries as “Debris” this season.

Apparently, it was the Mexican GP when Nyck de Vries was driving for Mercedes in FP1. When Carlos Sainz completed a flying lap, his engineer informed him that De Vries is on an out lap. To this Sainz quickly responded and misunderstood De Vries as “Debris”.
This was one confusing moment for the Spaniard, yet he effortlessly put out a humorous response. He again recalled his “Debris” joke on the F1 Instagram post, responding to the most impressive driver of 2022.
And to be fair to De Vries, he certainly put on a brilliant performance in Italy on his F1 debut. While he beat Williams full-timer Nicholas Latifi, he also scored his first points by finishing P9. Eventually, De Vries has got a full-time drive for 2023 with Alpha Tauri.
Fans left in Splits over Carlos Sainz joking about ‘the Debris’
Many fans on Twitter have reacted to Carlos Sainz replying to F1’s official post. Mainly, they are applauding the Spaniard’s witty humor. Following are some of the comments on Sainz’s reply.

While De Vries’ name confusion might be a radio call problem next season as well, it’s going to be meme material for the F1 community for the foreseeable future.

We just hope De Vries himself takes this banter sportingly, as F1 Twitter can be crazy sometimes.
Nonetheless, a good 2023 season and De Vries might be trending on Twitter every race weekend.

Let me introduce myself. My name is Nyck Debris, I‘m a Formula 1 driver and I mainly do outlaps behind Carlos Sainz! Also I like to be avoided on track.

Max Verstappen was certainly one of the best drivers of 2022. Though for some banter and humor, Sainz would love to play against stats and trends.
Carlos Sainz is just savage at times with his witty responses. Even though he called De Vries the most impressive driver of 2022, he might be happy for his former teammate Max Verstappen, who dominated the season.
