The rivalry between Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg will always be remembered as one of the most thrilling intra-team rivalries. The two drivers who took the 2014, 2015, and 2016 F1 seasons by the storm have taught the world a new lesson on fierce rivalry. Mercedes’s boss unfolds a story based on this.

In a video titled, ‘Inside the mind of a five-time F1 world champion’, we see Toto Wolff and 2016 F1 Champion Nico Rosberg talk about the long-time Mercedes man Lewis Hamilton. During their conversations, the duo was candid in their approach.

While talking about an event when Rosberg was accompanying Wolff’s wife for an event, the Mercedes team principal stated, “I remember your reaction also, because we were a bunch of people and you were with her on a promotional event and your first question was… ‘Where’s Lewis, Was Lewis on the pack there? That was your question.”

To which Rosberg explains, “I thought the championship was in the bag.”

Wolff followed with, “The Championship was in the bag if he was in the peloton. He wasn’t there.”

Toto Wolff, once being a part of a peloton, crashed and fractured his shoulder, collar bone, elbow, and wrist. The group of cyclists also included Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg.

It all started when Lewis Hamilton joined Mercedes from McLaren and reunited with his childhood friend, Nico Rosberg. The first season in 2013 was only setting the stage for the world to see what will come in the next three years in F1.

As Mercedes made better use of the turbo-hybrid engines in 2014, the duo of Hamilton and Rosberg were far ahead of the rest of the pack. With nobody to challenge the Silver Arrows drivers, it was the perfect moment of peak rivalry.

In a report published by Planet F1, Nico Rosberg told Sky F1, “We made it extremely difficult.”

“It went to the point that we had a code of conduct, a paper, what we were allowed to do in a wheel-to-wheel battle, and even penalties with a lot of zeros on them attached to that because there was no other way.”

“It just got too heated and too extreme.”

During the extremely contested three years, Hamilton managed to pick the 2014 and 2015 F1 titles while Rosberg became victorious in 2016. With what is now regarded as one of the best rivalries in the history of F1, Lewis Hamilton, and Nico Rosberg put the sport to a whole different level in terms of competitiveness, for sure.
