The Austrian GP has been a nightmare for Lewis Hamilton. The 7x champion was in high spirits in the build-up to the Austrian GP weekend with his Mercedes team improving the W14. However, from the very get-go, the Brit has struggled for pace, as evidenced by the Sprint Shootout. But having a better grid slot for the race today, he’d have hoped for more.

That being said, the W14 isn’t complying with the 38-year-old’s needs. Time and again, the fans and the commentators have remarked that Hamilton is not enjoying the race as he continues to struggle. But what is the matter with the Brit today?

Hamilton has been very active on the radio comms today. One thing the viewers may have noticed is the 5-second time penalty the Brit has earned for his troubles violating the track limits. But it’s not a skill issue as Hamilton explains.

When his race engineer informed him of the infractions, Hamilton came onto the radio and exclaimed, “I can’t keep it on the track. The car won’t turn! Which corner is it?” Subsequently, he received a black-and-white flag followed by a 5-second time penalty. Earlier on, he’d also slammed the car, saying, This car is slow, mate,” despite Toto Wolff’s optimism.

But it isn’t just the car today that has been disappointing Hamilton.

Lando Norris can be contributed as being the whistleblower who in no uncertain terms reiterated many times about Hamilton’s track limits violations. The stewards were prompt enough to dish the penalty out for it on the 7x champion.

But Hamilton feels hard done by the Stewards turning a blind eye to Sergio Perez! Hamilton has been on the radio multiple times now telling his team to notify the Stewards about Perez going off the track. But the Mexican has not been given a penalty yet.
