Max Verstappen marked the beginning of a new F1 era by winning the world championship title in 2021. The Dutchman entered the grid as the youngest driver ever and quickly established himself as a top driver. And there is statistical data to prove it.

The same statistical data puts another driver on the same level as the Dutchman, Charles Leclerc. The Ferrari pilot, along with the Red Bull world champion, can be the two defining drivers of the next generation.
Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen the new GOATs
It’s rare for data to put two drivers from the same generation and era on the same level, with two exceptions being Senna/Prost (late 80s–early 90s) and Schumacher/Alonso (mid-00s). However, Verstappen and Leclerc are the latest addition to this exception.
The two drivers will lead the future of F1, according to the data. The Ferrari man does not hit the same highs as Verstappen’s graph, but with their individual first four years, they’re on equal footing. As per the metric, Verstappen and Leclerc are rated among the strongest drivers of all time. Although if they will keep the same high level throughout their careers is unknown.

Leclerc is driving a Ferrari car worth challenging for the championship. Exactly why after the Monaco GP, Leclerc is on top of the driver ranking in 2022. And Verstappen’s championship-winning season performance is ranked his best so far.
In conclusion, both drivers are extremely talented and ranked highly. And the only competition to either is from themselves as we’ve seen in the season so far. Leclerc joined the traveling circus in 2018 as compared to Verstappen’s 2015 debut but there isn’t much separating the two. However, with the newer generation of drivers coming in, these two already have competition on the grid.

The coming era will not be a one-man show, with Lando Norris and George Russell also ranked highly. The Mercedes driver is already showing his potential with a top-five finish in all the races so far. And the Mclaren youngster is overshadowing his teammate for the second season in a row.
The model suggests Norris is only a fraction below Leclerc. And Russell is already proving his worth against a seven-time world champion. Not sure what path their careers will take, but we expect high-quality racing for years to come from all of them.
