Whenever, Wherever Lewis Hamilton and Shakira are seen together, the F1 community goes into a frenzy. It’s no secret that they have been spending time with each other recently. And even though it has usually been in groups, that hasn’t stopped the dating rumors from sparking. While Hips Don’t Lie, actions—in this case, non-actions—don’t lie either because ever since the rumors have picked up, neither has addressed them as untrue. Hamilton and Shakira fans, don’t lose hope because there’s a solid chance that they really are dating.

But this situation begs the question: how did it start? How did the seven-time world champion and the three-time Grammy winner meet? And who’s responsible for—what looks like—their mutual interest in each other?

Lewis Hamilton and Shakira’s cupid is none other than Carlos Sainz

After 12 years of being together, Shakira split with former FC Barcelona player Gerard Pique in 2022. And earlier this year, she decided to move to Miami. And one of the first events she attended after moving was the Miami GP, her first sighting in the F1 paddock. During her time there, she also met with Hamilton and a few friends, and that’s when the rumors started. Weeks later, she was spotted again at the Spanish GP, this time in the Mercedes garage, and later celebrated Hamilton’s podium with him. But how did Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz play a hand in this? 

Sainz joined F1 in 2015, and since then, he has formed good bonds with many drivers in the F1 community—both in and outside the paddock. And one of his good friends is Lewis Hamilton. Being somewhat of a Spanish superstar himself, Sainz also formed a good relationship with Colombian singer Shakira during her time in Barcelona when she was still together with Pique. And what do you know, his mutual friendship with the two helped sow the seeds of what could become a power couple.

In an interview with Fiesta, as quoted by elEconomista.es, Spanish journalist Pipi Estrada explained, “There is one key thing in this relationship. Carlos Sainz knows Shakira, and Carlos Sainz has a very good relationship with Hamilton. And that’s where they got together. That’s where that relationship was born, with Carlos Sainz.”

While Sainz has been helping Ferrari—or at least trying to—return to the front of the field, he has also been playing Cupid. And as much as fans are loving it, so are Mercedes’ social media admins.

Mercedes’ Twitter is having a field day with Hamilton-Shakira dating rumors

While F1 fans can’t stop speculating whether the rumors about Lewis Hamilton and Shakira dating are true, Mercedes’ social media hasn’t held back on instigating the rumors further. After the Spanish GP, Mercedes posted a few pictures on Twitter of celebrities who attended the Spanish GP to support the Brackley team. Well, more precisely, Lewis Hamilton. And one of the pictures featured none other than Shakira.

The admin must have had to know that people would overlook the fact that Tom Cruise was there too (he’s become a Mercedes regular now) and go straight to pointing out that Shakira was featured on one of its posts. And that’s exactly what happened.
