Here we go, Oscar Piastri is in McLaren! The Australian international has finally made the Woking-based team his destination for 2023 amidst serious controversies. As McLaren managed to snatch the young driver out of Alpine’s clutches, F1 fans question the British team’s integrity.
The fiasco began when Fernando Alonso chose to replace retirement-bound Sebastian Vettel at Aston Martin. The move left Alpine without a driver for next season. Naturally, the French team wanted Piastri to fill the seat. However, there was a catch.

McLaren was already linked to Oscar by the time Alpine decided to give the young driver a go. This feud between the two powerhouse teams led to Alpine approaching FIA’s CRB (Contract Recognition Board). However, the CRB’s judgment favored McLaren and the British team announced Oscar Piastri’s move ahead of the 2022 Dutch Grand Prix.
But what made F1 fans criticize the Oscar Piastri – Daniel Ricciardo move?
Even though McLaren would be more than happy to get the young Australian on board next year, the team’s action didn’t set well with the F1 fans.
The fans have pointed out the timeline of the move and shared that it was unfair towards Daniel Ricciardo. Sources say Piastri signed a contract with McLaren on July 4, 2022, which the CRB approved. And as it turns out, Ricciardo, the current driver for McLaren, was unaware of the move entirely as he put out a statement regarding his commitment to the Papaya team on 13th of July.

So question is when did they tell Daniel? McLaren come over quite shady. But F1 is savage so I guess that’s how it is

Daniel was in MTC telling everyone how committed he was, getting even a bit emotional while Andreas stood next to him knowing they signed Oscar. Daniel didn’t know shit before Hungary and that obvious rn.

McLaren did him dirty fr

The post was updated by Ricciardo himself, long after the tie-up with Piastri was done by the Woking-based team.
So why would they make him stand up and make a speech about how committed he was to the team in front of the whole factory then?!?! Not buying this from Andreas….

Seidl said they had been transparent but didn't give a timeline of who was told what and when. It's likely Riccardo didn't yet know.

Bit scummy really. Kinda feel bad for Ricciardo

that’s insane. so he was still under contract when they signed him, didn’t tell him and have now pretty much told him to bugger off after signing someone behind his back. that’s actually insane
