The man who claimed the 130R of Suzuka to assert his dominance over the mighty Michael Schumacher has been dormant in terms of numbers for almost a decade now. However, in 2023, Fernando Alonso stands resurrected. His gamble, to choose the seventh team from the constructor’s championship last year, has paid off and how. The Aston Martin now stands as the second fastest car in the field and the man on a few occasions has tried to bring up the fight to the Red Bull boys. And an aide believes that Fernando is a man who doesn’t leave a win on the table.

Two factors seemed to weigh Nando down. First, the Spaniard has often been cited as someone who hasn’t been the palliest of people with his teammates, and second, his age. The man is the grid’s oldest driver and the most experienced by every metric possible. The latter is the reason most teams offered him only a one-year contract. However, if it was a gamble for the Matador, it was one for Aston Martin. That being said, the two appear like a match made in heaven. His manager, Flavio Briatore, believes that the driver can take up a world championship fight as both he and the team are constantly improving.

As quoted by Motorsport Turkey, he said, “I never doubted his speed. They said about Fernando ‘he’s too old, he’s not a team player,’ but that’s all bulls**t! Just give him the car and he’ll get you good results. Fernando is an outstanding racer.”

He further added, “I won’t say the title fight is over this year. Aston Martin has a new car, let’s see how much the team can improve on the AMR23? Other teams still have to deal with problems, but Fernando has a tool that is easy to understand and use. If he has a chance to win a race, he will not miss this opportunity.”

During the post-race interview, Spaniard said, “I told the team If I go first in the first corner I will buy you beers in Australia, so now I need to invite everybody in Australia, but I think we have a picture of Aston Martin leading the race and that is very good news.
