Max Verstappen became world champion in 2021. The Dutch driver became the first world champion from his country. After an intense last lap of the season finale, there was a loud celebratory voice on Verstappen’s radio expressing their euphoria over the win. Many have suspected that the voice is of the Red Bull reserve driver Alex Albon.

But the Thai driver recently came out and denied that he was the one on Max’s team radio. Instead, he revealed that the voice was of Max‘s race engineer, GP Lambiase. Alex described how he was not even in the garage during the celebration and was elsewhere.

Alex Albon reveals it wasn’t him on the team radio in Abu Dhabi
As reported by Motorsport.nl, the Williams driver mentioned he is aware that many people claim he was the one shouting on the radio. But he stated that his voice and GP’s shouting are quite similar to each other.
“Yes, I know about this. But that wasn’t me! It’s just that when GP yells [Gianpiero Lambiase, Verstappen’s race engineer], apparently he sounds just like me,” said Albon.

” I spoke to GP about it a day later. I said to him, ‘Hey, by the way, you know everyone thinks it was me who got on the radio?’ His response was, “Oh, really?” Even people on the team thought it was me!

But guys, do you really think I can do that with my headset? Of course not,” I replied. ‘How do you imagine that? That I am eating a sandwich in the hospitality industry and then pressing the button for the radio?’ So no, I was really happy for Max and celebrated like everyone else in the team, but I wasn’t the one yelling over the radio,” said Albon.

Well, that is one mystery solved. But it was an interesting chain of events that led to many people suspecting it was Alex shouting on the radio.

Albon was on the sidelines and must be clearly itching to get back racing in the 2022 season. The Thai driver will race for Williams for this season.
