Max Verstappen is having a dream run in F1. Red Bull is at their fastest and he is at his best, extracting all there is from the RB19. While his rampage on the racetrack continues, his teammate Sergio Perez has been left in the dust. And because of this, Red Bull has been often termed to be biased towards the Dutchman. However, Michael Schumacher’s ex-teammate at Ferrari has come out to say that there exists no such bias.
Eddie Irvine was Schumacher’s Ferrari teammate from 1996 to 1999. During that period, he could never win the WDC against his more talented German teammate. And to date, he does not give excuses for being second best to Michael Schumacher. He knows that Schumacher’s talent was “enormous” and it was only because of that that he won 7 world Championships. Giving his example, he said that Sergio Perez is in the same situation and Verstappen cannot be stopped.
Irvine said in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport, as quoted by f1maximaal, “The Red Bull is unbelievable, but there is a world of difference between him and Sergio Perez. When I was in Maranello, they also said that Ferrari favored Schumacher alongside me, but that was bulls**t. Of course, if there was a new engine or floor, they would give it to him first, but his talent was also enormous. Verstappen is the same. Now that he has won two titles, he no longer feels pressure and does what he feels like doing.” [translated via Google]

As time goes by, Perez is getting more reality checks than opportunities for excuses. Irvine also said that Verstappen and his RB19 might remain untouchable this season and in the near future.

Max Verstappen has been so dominant this season that the word ‘dominant’ is losing its value. Whoever is responsible for creating and putting new words in the English dictionary needs to work overtime to find synonyms that exaggerate the word. Needless to say, he is 1st in the WDC with 229 points. He’s so far ahead that the entity with the next highest points after him is not even a driver, it’s a constructor. It’s Mercedes with 178 points.
Speaking about the same, Irvine said, “In the past, Max was very aggressive and not always correct, but that is no longer the case. He’s still extremely fast, but he now knows how to wait for the right moment to deploy his actions. I don’t see who could disturb him in the near future.”

Eddie Irvine has watched Schumacher’s talent very closely. And he has compared Max Verstappen to the 7-time champion. Could he also have meant that the Dutchman has many more WDCs to his name in the future?
