The end of the 2022 season really feels like the end of an era in Formula 1. So much will change come 2023, and more change beckons through 2026. That being said, at the end of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix today, we’d lose two greats of our sport, Sebastian Vettel and Daniel Ricciardo.
Daniel Ricciardo’s road in Formula 1 may have actually come to an end. Earlier in the year, McLaren announced that the Honey Badger would not be retained for the 2023 season and would be replaced by Oscar Piastri. Now, on the day of his final race for the team and F1 in general, the Papaya team has paid him a touching tribute on Twitter.

Even though the results have not spoken to the fact of Ricciardo‘s importance to the team, it cannot be said that the Honey Badger failed at McLaren. The Australian could never consistently get the most out of the car and mostly lagged behind Lando Norris. But McLaren’s tribute to him is a true testament to what he meant to the fans and the team.
Fans react as McLaren post touching tribute for Daniel Ricciardo
Daniel Ricciardo will race his last laps for the team today at the 2022 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. After receiving a grid penalty, he will start 13th. He would hope to sign off on a positive note for the Papaya team. Their video and the fan reactions will surely give him the motivation to do the best job that he can for them.
Let’s take a look at a few of the fan reactions to McLaren’s Danny Ric video.
Today we say farewell to our friend, @DanielRicciardo. Thank you for the memories, Daniel. 🧡 pic.twitter.com/r7xZ1o5yEI

Ricciardo was not just a racing driver for F1 fans. As soon as the video was posted to McLaren’s official Twitter handle, fans quickly stormed the social media platform to share personal stories about the Honey Badger.
Since I got into F1, I’ve been a big fan of Daniel. His charisma and humor is what made me a fan.
But what really meant a lot to me was his fantastic attitude in person. He made a super kind video for my friend without batting an eye. I’m forever grateful. Thank you, Daniel. pic.twitter.com/S5I1bYqxIu

One of the nicest, happiest people (let alone drivers) you can meet, always jovial and smiling – even if conversations are littered with C-bombs – no matter how the race weekends went.@danielricciardo, big fan of your work, go get 'em. pic.twitter.com/UQ82Coi7Kz

Safe to say, the news of Ricciardo potentially not being able to pave a path back to the pinnacle of motorsport has not gone down too well with the fans. F1 Twittersphere was inconsolable, thinking this could be Ricciardo’s last ever race.

This might be Ricciardo’s last-ever F1 race, although we hope it isn’t. Is there any other viable F1 opportunity that would be perfect for Daniel Ricciardo to take up post-2023?
