Fernando Alonso and Alpine were down in the dumps after the US Grand Prix. He fought hard to secure a good 7th position after colliding with Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll during a Safety Car restart. However, he was deemed liable for a 30-second post-race penalty by the FIA which meant he was demoted to 15th and out of the points.

Alonso was penalized by the FIA after his side mirror came loose and eventually broke off. This move to penalize Alonso was retrospective as the penalty was only handed out once Haas protested against Alpine post-race. But as Alonso would think, justice has now been done. What’s more? This smells trouble for McLaren in the Constructors’ Championship!
After hearing Alpine’s side, the FIA overturned the penalty. This means Alonso will now be classified as having finished 7th at the 2022 United States GP. Alpine had this to say about the decision. They said, “The team welcomes the decision made by the aforementioned stewards, whereby Car #14 reinstates its seventh place finish and six points from the race. We look forward to continuing our collaborative work alongside the FIA to ensure the racing spectacle is maintained to the highest quality.”

Even though the stewards have decided in Alonso’s favor, his crash with Stroll has left him scarred, at least mentally. The Spaniard recently opened up about the entire crash and what he feared the most.

Fernando Alonso was lifted into the air by Lance Stroll‘s Aston Martin. The Spaniard drove the car back into the pits and then into the points. However, this incident has left him with a scare or two.

While explaining the whole incident, he said, “Five minutes ago, I was fine, now I have a little bit of pain, so I have to wait until tomorrow probably to really see.” He then went on to explain what got him so nervous about the crash.
“It was scary in the car because when you are up in the air anything can happen. If you catch the fence on the left, the metallic one, you can see IndyCar sometimes they do the 360 quite dangerous. So, I thought that I will end up on the left or more on the left.”
