Tennis prodigy Carlos Alcaraz created history! At the ripe age of 21, the Spaniard won his second Wimbledon Championship in a row; defending his title from the ever-fierce Novak Djokovic. He beat the legend in straight sets at the Center Court. In what looked like a sequel to last year’s final – Alcaraz clinched the title with a 6-2, 6-2, 7-6 (4) scoreline against Djokovic. And in under three hours, the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club observed the new King of the courts.
Just a year ago, ahead of the 2023 Wimbledon Championship, Alcaraz faced a major setback. Djokovic defeated the young athlete at the French Open semifinals, thus bringing his Wimbledon ventures into doubt. However, there was one athlete who didn’t lose faith in the Spaniard even then. Guess who? It was Oscar Piastri. And now, rejoicing in the celebration of Alcaraz’s victory, Piastri has congratulated the four-time Grand Slam winner on social media.
The McLaren No.2 shared an image on his Instagram story featuring the champion Carlos Alcaraz with the caption “What a player.” It was followed by another story – a throwback image rather, which was taken right after the 2023 French Open and featured both Oscar and Carlos. This story’s caption read: “Enhorabuena @carlitosalcarazz” [Translation: Congratulation @carlitosalcarazz].

Since last year, Oscar Piastri has been one of the biggest cheerleaders for Alcaraz. Such inter-sport crossovers are always endearing. The F1 prodigy was present in the stadium on the day Carlos [of the tennis world] was about to take over the world no. 1 Novak Djokovic at Roland Garros. While it ended on a disappointing note, Piastri met Alcaraz after the match and encouraged him for his outstanding gameplay.

A once-in-a-generation talent like no other, Alcaraz continues to win hearts. His mindblowing serves and fearless attitude on the track remind the fans of another Spanish legend who conquered the sport in his prime – Rafael Nadal.
Alcaraz was in a whole different league in the Wimbledon final today. He dominated the match from start to finish, although the third set was slightly scary as he wasted three set points. He bounced back! So much so, that ‘Djoker’ was outperformed.
