TIME Magazine. Have you heard of it? It’s only one of the most influential news magazines in the whole world. From releasing a list of the greatest places to visit a list of the most influential people in the world, getting featured in TIME Magazine is like reaching the pinnacle of your career. One of the most anticipated lists, though, is the 100 most influential companies in the world. When a company is part of this list, it means it’s doing something right. And fashion icon and former tennis sensation Maria Sharapova took to Instagram to share her excitement about the list.
In her story, she said, “Proud to be an investor and partner in 3 brands that made this year’s Time Influential List.” The three brands included the Happiest Baby (for sleeping soundly)—valued at about $1 billion—Therabody (for at-home treatment), and Metaphysic (for AI for Hollywood). While these are the only three brands she’s an investor in, they aren’t the only ones she’s interested in. So which other company featured on the list is of interest to her? Formula 1.

This year’s top-100 list features more companies in sustainability than ever before. While F1 is one of the most popular sports in the world, it is also pretty harmful to the environment. But it has been taking steps to become 100% carbon-neutral by 2030. While this is a significant aspect that makes the business influential, F1’s ability to drive growth helped it find its place on the TIME list.
TIME Magazine states, “The global auto-racing circuit generated $2.57 billion in revenue in 2022, a 27% increase over 2019, and attendance reached 5.7 million last year, a 36% rise from prepandemic levels.” The magazine credits this growth to Netflix’s Drive To Survive and how that show has helped create interest and bring more viewers into the sport. Being an American magazine, TIME also highlighted the sport’s growth in the US and how this led to F1 adding a third race in the US this year in Las Vegas.
After moving from Russia to the US for her tennis career, Maria Sharapova has now grown roots in the US and settled in Los Angeles. There’s no doubt she, too, is part of the US population that loves F1. While discussing the American audience and the new race in Vegas, F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali said, “You can’t wait for fans to come to you. We must go and reach them directly.” Who knows, the extra race in the US will give Sharapova a few other opportunities to attend races this year.

It’s no secret Maria Sharapova is a fan of F1. And almost every F1 fan has a dream to attend the Monaco GP. And Sharapova got to live the dream. Invited by Red Bull Racing, the Monaco GP was the first time she visited the Principality for non-tennis reasons. You would think, being in the Red Bull camp, she would’ve been supporting Max Verstappen. But that wasn’t the case.
During the pre-race show, she was asked who she was rooting for, and she replied, “I’ve been a huge admirer and a friend of Lewis’, so I’m hoping he’ll be able to pull through.” Although she didn’t get to see Hamilton win, she witnessed him fight for a sought-after Monaco podium in undulating weather conditions in typical Lewis Hamilton fashion. She also got to give Max Verstappen the pole position award after qualifying.
