George Russell and Sergio Perez are slowly taking over the baton of rivalry from Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen. Collision with Russell in Austria, which earned him a penalty, cost Perez more. These two are recapping the rivalry from 2021 and maybe igniting that fire between Mercedes and Red Bull.
Russell escaped the contact in Austria and finished the race in P4, whereas Perez did not finish. History repeated itself in France as Russell collided with Perez again and Russell came out on top again. Russell came in contact with the Red Bull man on the inside of turn 8 and demanded his place back as Perez stayed ahead after going off-track.

The stewards intervened but deemed no penalty necessary and put the incident in the gray area. Annoyed by the decision, Russell continued complaining on the team radio. Russell complained, “Come on guys, we need to do something. He went straight on. He needs to serve his time.” To which his trackside engineer said, “Ah George, we were not ahead.”
However, after Rusell’s complaints persisted, an annoyed Toto Wolff showed up. He said, “George, keep your head down, you can hunt him down.”

After the collision, Perez was heard on his radio saying, “Ah he hit me, man. He pushed me off.” His race engineer quickly noted his comments. The collision did not prove costly for Perez, however, after Russell passed him, the Mexican pointed out every track limit infringement.
A desperate attempt to gain an advantage, maybe as he could see his chance to catch the Mercedes man slipping away.
