Haas have struggled massively this season. They have been the slowest car on the track, with almost a second slower than all the teams. But recently both their drivers have been starting the races on good grid positions because of penalties to other teams. Haas team principal Guenther Steiner joked if the trend continued, they would soon start from pole position.
The only race that the Haas showed some resistance and pace was the Hungary GP. But it was because of the nature of the track and damage to other cars than their true pace. But Steiner believes that the higher grid positions help their rookie drivers gain experience for their future.

We will end up in pole position: Guenther Steiner
As reported by HaasF1team.com, the team principal mentioned that the higher grid positions are a good learning experience for their drivers for next year. The team has not developed their 2021 car and has invested heavily in the new 2022 cars. But if all the other cars continue to take on penalties, Haas might move up even more.
“It is a very good thing for our drivers that this is happening at the moment, so they’re not always starting last and second last, or at best, 17th and 18th. It’s a little bit more forward,” said Steiner.
“We’re still hoping that at some stage with everybody having to change their engine, we will end up on pole position, but I think we’re running out of time for this year.

Starting in these positions trains them more for next year when we hope to start from these positions by our own means, with a better performing car.
It’s a big opportunity for them to learn and take stuff in, as every time they do one of these starts, they learn a lot about how they have to behave and how to get the best out of it.” joked the Haas team principal.
