Change your f****** car!” said Christian Horner to Toto Wolff, his counterpart at Mercedes. Little did they know that this outburst would foreshadow a glaring weakness that Lewis Hamilton and his team would face in the 2023 Formula 1 season. As the dominance of Red Bull Racing continues, their rivals find themselves grappling with a daunting reality.

With six races already in the books, Red Bull Racing has showcased an unrivaled level of dominance, thanks to the exceptional talents of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez. The team’s performance has left their rivals in awe, prompting many to question if anyone can stop their relentless charge.

In a recent interview with Motorsport Next Gen, Helmut Marko expressed his belief that their winning streak will continue, citing the team’s exceptional track record at the Spanish Grand Prix. “I’m sorry the excitement is lost; as we can see, the ratings are dropping dramatically. We’re usually even stronger here,” Marko stated confidently, echoing Verstappen’s earlier comment that Red Bull might win every Grand Prix this season.

Despite the hopes of Lewis Hamilton and Co., Marko dismissed their chances of closing the gap anytime soon. “Their only hope is to light a super rocket, but even then, it would be a monumental task for them to reach our level and sustain it,” Marko stated. “We shouldn’t be blamed for their inability to develop their cars better, even with more wind tunnel time than us.”

The budget cap imposed by Formula 1 regulation has left Red Bull unable to match the lucrative offers these teams present to their employees. Marko explained, “It’s becoming a big problem. The wage clauses in these offers often double what our engineers currently earn with us. With the budget restrictions, we can’t promise to match these offers. We simply can’t protect ourselves.”

Despite the challenges, Marko remains confident that the core of the winning team will stay intact. He believes that the allure of being part of Red Bull’s success story, combined with their partnerships with universities for employee training, will help them compensate for any losses.
