When you think about Lewis Hamilton, he surely isn’t the person you’d be wanting to go to for some relationship advice, right? That being said, as the curtain closes on the 7x Champion’s 2022, he was in a contemplative mood. This year has been a struggle for the man who has defined Formula 1 in the past decade. He’s seen the highest of highs and the most devastating of lows. And through it all, he seems to have learned a thing or two about life as well. In a recent interview, he expressed his thoughts about his year and the single most valuable ‘relationship’ advice he learned.

The way Hamilton’s calendar must be chalked out, the only thing he would’ve spent the most amount of time with would’ve been the Mercedes W13. It’s also no secret that he’s had a very torrid ride with his 2022 challenger. Quite literally in the first half of the season! In a recent interview with Sport Bild, he barred all about his struggles with his car and how he coped with them.

He was asked, “You once said that you would develop a personal relationship with all cars. Was it more of a love-hate relationship than a love affair with the Mercedes W13?” [translated via Google Translate]

“Let’s put it this way: talking also helps in a relationship like this ( laughs ). We understood each other better and better as the season progressed, the whole team worked great together – even better than before. The year was definitely not a disappointment for me.”

Mercedes posted on their official Twitter handle, “She retires with 515 points, 17 podiums, six fastest laps, one pole, and one win. While the W13 won’t be remembered as the fastest car we’ve ever built, the lessons learned this year might just make it the most important one.”
