Developing a championship-winning car is not everyone’s cup of tea. Lando Norris recently blew a punch in a fellow team’s guts as they try to regain their lost form. However, Norris’ own ship named MCL60 has been sinking, and pointing at someone else’s sinking ship doesn’t help at all. The 25-year-old’s comments make it even worse when you consider that the team he made them against is looking to sign him.

Mercedes’ 2023 constructor title hopes started fading as soon as the German team hit the road. The Silver Arrows look far away from completing its promise of providing a title-challenging car for its drivers. With George Russell claiming that Red Bull’s actual pace is around 7-tenth faster than the second-best team, Mercedes might have to aim a little lower this season. McLaren is in a disappointing position too, with the MCL60 amongst the slowest bunch of cars.

While the situation might be bad at McLaren, it has not stopped Lando Norris from making comments about Mercedes. Aston Martin began the season with a bang. They are the apparent 2nd fastest car leapfrogging the likes of Mercedes and Ferrari. The 25-year-old recently suggested how making a championship-winning car is not a straightforward task. He explained how Mercedes was so dominant for 8 years in F1, yet they failed to develop a car faster than their customer team and are the 4th best team this season.

According to motorsport.com, Lando Norris said, “But I think the perception that being successful is an easy task should be changed. Otherwise, everyone would be doing it. I don’t know how many years, like Mercedes, isn’t an easy task for a team that has won for the last time. They had one of the most dominant vehicles in F1. Now they’re probably the fourth-best team on the grid and have been beaten by the customer team. I think that showed how difficult and complicated it is to get the job done right.”

The McLaren driver was just trying to support his argument by giving an example. However, he potentially might have kicked himself in the face as rumors about Norris joining Mercedes have been going around for quite some while. The only seat available for grabs at Mercedes is Lewis Hamilton‘s. The 38-year-old is in the last year of his contract with Mercedes and hasn’t renewed his contract yet. If the seven-time-world champion decides to retire or move teams. Karun Chandhok believes Lando Norris would probably be the German Team’s number 1 pick anytime a seat becomes vacant. The 25-year-old has already proved himself to be a generational talent and any team would happily sign him.

According to Si.com, Karun Chandhok said, “Let’s say Lewis does decide halfway through this year ‘you know what, we’re not going anywhere, it’s not enough for me to win the championship’ and he decides to stop. Lando is the number one pick. I would imagine he would be the number-one pick for Toto and Mercedes.”
