Russell is heavily linked to Mercedes, ever since his one-off for them at the Sakhir GP, where he filled in for Hamilton. The Brit is also in his last year of contract with Williams is tipped to join the Silver Arrows for next season.
However, the 97′ world champion doesn’t think he would be a good fit and suggest that team boss, Wolff look at Stroll as an option.
Villeneuve said, “For me he [Bottas] could move to Aston Martin in place of Lance Stroll, who would go to Mercedes. Stroll senior’s dream, very close to Toto Wolff, is to see his son winning Championships. And Toto needs a place for Valtteri.”
“For sure Hamilton doesn’t like Russell as a team-mate. Better someone like Bottas, who doesn’t bother him,” he concluded.

Where can Bottas secure his future?
The Finn has been part of the team since 2017. Bottas has helped the Brackley-based squad pick up four constructor’s champions with the help of his teammate, Hamilton. However, it seems that their partnership is coming to an end, as Bottas is in his last year of contract with the Silver Arrows.
The 31-year-old is said to be replaced by Williams’ Russell. However, nothing is set in stone just yet, but Bottas hasn’t been offered an extension too. Hence, Finn might be looking elsewhere on the grid for a team that can assure him a seat for the 2022 season.
Alfa Romeo and Williams are heavily linked with Bottas. But can Valtteri set his game up for the remainder of the season, and convince Wolff & Co to give a new deal that would see him behind the wheel of a Mercedes next year as well?
