Mercedes were soaring at the highest level possible when it all came tumbling down. While the team became an 8x champion, Lewis Hamilton couldn’t become one. And while it may seem like a stretch, the bad luck had already begun. The team entering to claim the driver’s title in 2022 couldn’t even define the constructors. Talk about a humbling experience. However, despite Toto Wolff‘s tall claims expert claims, they will stick to their folly.

Wolff has been a vocal man about letting down Lewis Hamilton on occasions, even calling his machine a sh*tbox. But going ahead, he had declared that the change will soon arrive and the car will look different. This was perhaps everyone wishing that Mercedes ditch their zero side pod concepts for a faster version. But Peter Windsor has made a peculiar observation on a live YouTube session.

He said, “So the implication is they’ve made their decision on where they’re going to go with the car and this is the first step in going in that direction. Whether they’re going to get away from the whole zero-pod thing and this is the first step towards going towards a conventional car remains to be seen.”

He added, “But my bet is that they are still going to soldier on with this car but obviously make some changes based on better correlation between modeling, CFD and wind tunnel testing now that they’ve got a little bit more testing time, not being the World Champions last winter, and that correlation is going to be important in terms of the next step.”

Peter Windsor believes the rivals fighting for the runners-up position currently will be able to catch the Red Bull. He believes that Milton Keynes will pull the plug on development around Spa after setting the 2023 championship in stone. This perhaps can lead to rivals catching up.

He said, “So at that point, I think that’s when you might start to see a Mercedes or a Ferrari, or possibly even an Aston, really pretty close to a Red Bull. But it’ll be an artificial thing because Red Bull will be, at that point, beginning to look ahead to ’24. [It’ll be] a little bit like the back end of last year as well.”
