Max Verstappen has regained the championship lead after the Turkish Grand Prix. The Red Bull driver finished P2 in the race while his title rival Hamilton finished in P5. Verstappen was happy to finish on the podium but had one complaint from the race.

Max stated that the race was not particularly an exciting one from his cockpit. He mentioned that the race was a procession for him whilst he was managing his tires.

Max Verstappen mentioned it was hard to stay awake in the race

In his post-race interview, the Dutch driver stated that race was not that fun for him. When asked what was the biggest difficulty for him during the race, he gave a very cheeky answer.

“Staying awake,” Verstappen laughingly said. But he continued by mentioning the real difficulty he faced in the race.

“No, but it was all about managing the tires, so you were never pushing to make it to a certain amount of laps. And then you boxed for another set. Yeah, happy to be on the podium.”

The Red Bull driver satisfied with his result

As reported by GPBlog, Max Verstappen stated that he was satisfied with the P2. He explained that had it been a dry race, he would have had a more difficult time at the track.

“I could have had a harder time if it had been dry. And we’re doing a good job of that. Of course, we are first in the championship, but I do think we are a bit too slow. So we do need to work on understanding what we can do even better.

“It’s a bit of a nasty race with the wear and tear. You drive all over the canvas of that tire. But in the end, I am happy with that second place,” said Max.

After the race, Max is leading Lewis by 6 points going into the US Grand Prix. The track should suit the car a bit better than Turkey, as Verstappen would hope to get back to winning ways in F1.
