In this brutally competitive world of Formula 1, everyone wants to get one up on each other and that’s the law of the land. The drivers first experience this level of competitiveness against their teammates. We have all seen some fierce rivalries between teammates over the years. However, this is the general suggestion but it is surely not the norm. Over the years, we have seen multiple drivers break this stereotype. Lando Norris is one driver who has done so with every teammate of his so far. However, his first is still his best, and let us prove that with an instance from the past.

Back in 2020, Norris was partnered with his first teammate Carlos Sainz at McLaren. The two formed an extremely strong bond. This was evident on multiple occasions in front of the world. However, behind the scenes is when they were truly in their element. McLaren’s former employee Charlotte Sefton revealed an incident that highlights the same.

As found on Twitter, She narrated, “We were working in the marketing office and we could hear this giggling from the drivers’ room next door… I went into their drivers’ room to speak to them and they were both lying on the massage bed watching YouTube or Instagram videos together. We all started p**sing ourselves laughing at first, but I then said to them, “What the f**k are you doing? Why aren’t you in the garage?”

“Everyone is looking for you!” I was like an ogre telling them off all the time. But that was the point where I and some others in the team realized that they actually enjoyed spending time together.”

In fact, the two still give us glimpses of their bromance from time to time reigniting the “Carlando” fire among fans. In fact, according to some, Sainz has lost his x-factor since leaving McLaren.

Sky Sports experts believe Carlos Sainz has lost his X-factor after leaving Lando Norris and McLaren

The Spaniard has definitely got the highlight of his career in the Ferrari red at Silverstone in 2022. However, according to some Sky Sports F1 experts, the Spaniard has lost the x-factor and excitement in his driving. For some the reasons are unknown but according to David “Crofty” Croft, it’s the lack of bromance with Norris.

On the SkySportsF1 Podcast, Toni Cowan-Brown said, “I found Carlos Sainz way more exciting as a driver when he was at McLaren than what he is at Ferrari. I find them a lackluster pairing. I want to see more from both of them, especially Charles Leclerc but Carlos Sainz as well is a phenomenal driver, I mean they all are. But I definitely found him more exciting when he was at McLaren.”

To this Crofty added, “It was the Bromance with Lando and all sorts of reasons.”

We are not sure if we can take that as a genuine reason. However, we do know a single person can make a big impact on a teammate in F1. They can either uplift them or suppress them and with Norris it was definitely not the latter.
