There isn’t a more exciting feeling than seeing two cars go wheel-to-wheel during a race. Couple that with old foes at each other’s throats and we have a memorable moment that lingers in the memories of the fans. This exact scenario came to pass during the Bahrain GP. Fernando Alonso produced a rousing overtake on Lewis Hamilton that made the seven-time champ look average in comparison.

This is the opinion of a former racer and now a DAZN reporter, Roldán Rodríguez. Speaking from experience, Rodriguez shared his insights into the Alonso move and its brilliance. The former racer shared his appreciation for the 21-year-old during a conversation with El Confidencial.

“Fernando chose the perfect one and the one that no other driver can think of, not even in F1, F2. It was very special, because the overtaking starts at turns five and six, in the rapids going downhill. The overtake is definitely lingering in the minds of the F1 community, and Rodríguez is proof of that. In fact, Hamilton himself appreciated the wheel-to-wheel racing with his old foe and even congratulated him for his podium post-race.

Although despite the appreciation, the race in Saudi Arabia changed Hamilton’s outlook.

Speaking to BBC, Hamilton said, “I am genuinely happy for Aston. It’s amazing to see their progress, the steps that they’ve taken. I’m really happy for Fernando because he’s been here way longer than me and it’s good to have him back in the mix. Hopefully, we’ll get some good races.”

However, the Brit quickly revealed his competitive nature. “They have pretty much the whole back end of our car. They have half our car. So it’s definitely not great for us,” he added.
