Fernando Alonso, the anti-hero of Formula 1. Many believed that the dark side of the F1 Villain vanished after Aston Martin provided him with a rocketship of an AMR23. Up until now, when the Spaniard’s podium streak was broken by Charles Leclerc. The 41-year-old made comments which are to be expected from the old anti-hero Alonso after he was dominated by the Monegasque the whole race. Fans were triggered and took to social media to express their outrage.

Charles Leclerc started on the pole and had a shot at winning the race. The pace looked relatively okay compared to the Red Bull during the Sprint race, giving hope to the Tifosi. However, on heavier loads, Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez breezed past Leclerc. After the safety car drama panned out, Leclerc and Fernando Alonso were left in P3 and P4, respectively. The two were in a battle of their own during the whole race.

Fernando Alonso stayed behind the Monegasque for the initial part of the race after the safety car and then pushed forward getting within a second of Leclerc to push him on and use the tires. Ferrari usually eats up its tires very quickly, as was demonstrated on medium compounds before the safety car. However, Leclerc saw right through Alonso’s strategy of getting Leclerc to use up the hard tires and managed the race very well.

The Spaniard made a final push towards the last 5 laps reducing the gap from 4 seconds to 8 tenths just missing out on the podium. During the post-race interviews, Fernando said, “I think they got lucky. The hard tire was less degraded than expected. The temperature was dropping at the end. On a normal hot race, I think they will struggle a bit more. Today was good for them but Miami is going to be different.”
