France played England in the FIFA WC quarter-finals last night. The two teams were evenly matched when Olivier Giroud rose to the occasion to score the winning goal for the defending champions. As England saw a sad exit from the WC, Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton fans recalled Harry Kane’s year-old tweet to fight over.

The quarter-final game between France and England was a thrilling one. England enjoyed better possession but France was more clinical in front of the goal as Aurelian Tchouameni scored early in the 17th minute. England scored the equalizer through a Harry Kane penalty in the 54th minute, but the French team retook the lead via Giroud’s goal.

England got a second chance to equalize in the closing stages of the game through a penalty. However, Harry Kane failed to convert from the spot by firing it wide off the goalpost. The Spurs star was distraught as France held their nerve to see the clock tick to the full-time whistle.

The England captain’s misery did not end there as Max Verstappen fans dug out his tweet from last year where he showed support for Lewis Hamilton after the Abu Dhabi GP debacle.

The 7-time world champion missed out on the 8th title after FIA’s controversial decision that has fans divided to this day. Kane wrote, “He literally raced the perfect race under the highest pressure and gets the World Championship taken away from him. Seems like common sense to keep the lead that you’d raced so hard to gain. Shame it had to end like that.”
