After fighting till the final whistle with France, England bowed out of the FIFA WC in the quarter-finals. In a tight game that saw a lot of drama, England failed to equalize for the second time to take the game to extra time. As the team exited the tournament, fellow countrymen and F1 stars Lewis Hamilton and George Russell posted heartfelt messages.

Despite having a majority percentage of possession, England conceded the first goal at the hands of young French sensation Aurelian Tchouameni in the 17th minute. England equalized in the 54th minute through Harry Kane’s penalty. Olivier Giroud sealed the heartbreak for the Three Lions as he scored in the 78th minute.

England gave it their all to extract a goal in the final few minutes, but could not find the back of the net. A chance presented itself in the 84th minute through a penalty. However, captain Harry Kane failed to make the most of it as he fired the ball wide off the goalpost.
Reacting to the loss through his Instagram stories, Lewis Hamilton wrote, “We are proud of you bro, keep your head up! You all did so great, thank you for representing us all the best way.”
“Let’s welcome our boys home and show them love and support! They did us proud and whilst we wanted to win, we will rise again and fight again,” he wrote in the second post.
Mercedes teammate George Russell posted a message through his Instagram story as well. Russell simply wrote, “You did us proud lads. Your time will come.”
Lewis and Harry Kane share a special relationship. Lewis missed out on the 2021 world championship in a controversial fashion. After the race, Kane put out a tweet supporting his fellow Briton.

The 2021 World Drivers’ Championship (WDC) run went right down to the wire. The title was decided in the ultimate lap of the last race as Max Verstappen clinched his maiden championship title. In the controversial end to the race, Lewis Hamilton missed out on a record 8th world championship.
Coming to Hamilton’s aid, Spurs striker Harry Kane posted, “He [Lewis] literally raced the perfect race under the highest pressure and gets the World Championship taken away from him. Seems like common sense to keep the lead that you’d raced so hard to gain. Shame it had to end like that.”
