Carlos Sainz’s granddad Antonio Sainz Rebollo passed away at the age of 97 on July 12, 2023. Antonio is the father of Carlos Sainz Sr, the infamous rally driver, and the granddad of Carlos Sainz. While the reason for death hasn’t been revealed by the family, his absence sure is going to leave an empty space in the family. He was buried in Madrid. Carlos Sainz Jr and Sr praise the man who kick-started everything for him when he bought a $176,000 beast.

Antonio Sainz wasn’t a motorsport enthusiast or a fan, for that matter. Antonio was a businessman who worked for a long time in Bolivia. He was primarily involved in helping the expansion of the Galicia brewery to South America. Nonetheless, after his son won the World Rally Championship in 1990, the Spaniard fell in love with the motorsport. And it all started back in 1980.
