Club America recently made history with a record 14-time victory in Liga MX. While soccer fans were rejoicing in the dominant 3-0 victory on display, Formula One fans had put their complete spotlight on the Mexican Minister of Defense – Sergio Perez.

Right after Club America created history against a nine-man Tigres in the second leg of the finals, Sergio Perez was seen celebrating with the players on the ground. The Red Bull driver even met and hugged his role model on the field, capturing the attention of fans.

After Club America’s historic win, Perez made his way to the pitch to celebrate with the players. On the field, he revealed that he’s a big fan of Mexican soccer star, Henry Martin. He made his way to the Club America player and congratulated him, “Enjoy it very much with your whole family.”

Soon after, Perez showcased his inner fanboy, when he took a photograph of his young nephew with the Forward. After that, a journalist was interviewing Checo, when right-back Miguel Layun made his way towards Sergio Perez and hugged in celebration.

However, the highlight of the day for Sergio Perez has to be the fact that he got to meet his role model. The person in whose honor Sergio Perez chose the number 11 as his number in F1, Ivan Zamorano. The former Chilean striker came running towards Checo before ending up in a bear hug, showcasing mutual respect and admiration.

Perez then continued the celebration with Club America and was seen mingling with manager Andre Jardine as well. While he had few opportunities to celebrate this season, Checo’s 2023 did end on a high, with him securing the second spot in the drivers’, and his favorite team winning the championships for the 14th time. Truly a historic day.

Sergio Perez’s silver lining to the 2023 season

Sergio Perez’s lack of form has been the talk of the town for quite some time now. In fact, his qualifying performances were under extreme levels of scrutiny. Damning facts like Alex Albon, when he was in the Red Bull, managed to secure an average of P7.4 when the Red Bull wasn’t as competitive, compared to Sergio Perez’s average of P9.2 when he has the fastest car on the grid didn’t please too many fans and critics.
