If a team has Joseph “Pep” Guardiola on its side, it can be sure to learn a thing or two about winning. The Spanish soccer manager has been with English Premier League team Manchester City since 2016, and in his seven seasons with the club, he’s won 14 major titles for them—three of them coming this year. Manchester City claimed the Treble this season—winning the Premier League, the FA Cup, and the Champions League. If there’s another manager who’s as successful in terms of winning, it’s Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff

Mercedes dominated the turbo-hybrid era from 2014 to 2021, winning all eight Constructors’ Championships. Needless to say, it knows what it’s like to win. But ever since the new 2022 regulations, Mercedes hasn’t been able to build a car that has championship potential. And a large part of the reason has been the $135 million cost cap introduced in 2021 to help level the playing field.

Mercedes had to cut down expenses and change a lot of things around, and considering how it’s performing, the limit on spending hasn’t suited it. But one team with the money and has done a good job at spending it is Manchester City, headed by Pep Guardiola. And this weekend, the City manager is in the Mercedes garage, cheering on Lewis Hamilton & Co. at their home race.

“Bring that winning vibe”: Fans plead with Pep Guardiola to help Mercedes return to winning ways

Manchester City is a highly decorated club in soccer, and it owes a huge part of its success to Guardiola. He’s managed the talent well and the resources the team has to guide it to success. And fans couldn’t help but advise Toto Wolff and Mercedes to learn from him. While Manchester City has used his talent well, it’s also a big-spending team. So while fans asked Toto to learn how to spend his money wisely, some fans also took a dig at Guardiola for over-spending.

One fan mentioned how Bono would go on the radio and ask Lewis to do a “false nine” strategy—a term commonly used in soccer.

Another fan asked Pep to help bring his City wins to Mercedes. Considering that Mercedes hasn’t won a race in a while, one fan even called Pep a fraud for not being able to help Mercedes win.

And one fan expressed how they don’t know how to feel about Pep being at the British GP being an Arsenal and Mercedes supporter (Man City beat Arsenal to the Premier League title this season).
