The rookie not only drove his first race in F1, but he also finished the race in the ninth position. A P9 finish for De Vries meant championship points in his first race at the premier class. The Mercedes reserve driver sat in Alex Albon’s Williams for the Italian GP as Albon had to withdraw due to an illness.
The rookie Dutchman would’ve never imagined his weekend would end with his F1 debut until Saturday morning. Now, after his P9 finish in the race, De Vries is the second-best Williams driver behind Albon.
The rookie pushed Nicholas Latifi to the 21st position in the 20-driver season in the current campaign. With his P9 finish in the race, De Vries scored two points, which is two more than Latifi’s zero points in the season so far. This drop in the standings might hurt Latifi’s chances of acquiring a seat for the 2023 season.
On the flip side, it’s a huge win for De Vries. The young rookie stakes his claim on a seat for 2023 and a promotion from the reserve driver position.

Not only a points finish, but De Vries’ debut race showing earned him an award as well. Nyck de Vries earned the vote from the fans to become the Driver of the Day for Italian GP.
The rookie driver’s performance is earning him plenty of plaudits from the entire F1 fraternity.
Nyck de Vries becomes a menace for Nicholas Latifi on his F1 debut
Latifi is earning a lot of criticism from the F1 fandom. The fans are pointing out how the rookie De Vries outperformed the Canadian. We must admit it’s an incredible feat, as the Dutchman only got an hour-long practice session before qualifying. In a qualifying session, he aced by going 13th fastest and starting the race from P8 out qualifying Latifi.
Oh dear. Nicholas Latifi is out of Q1. Stand-in teammate Nyck de Vries, who only found out he was driving the Williams this morning, has out-qualified him and advanced to Q2.
