The 2020 F1 season commenced with only 8 races in the pipeline. However, the FIA slowly began to confirm more and more races in the days and weeks that went by. The newest additions to the list of races, Nurburgring, Portimao, and Imola take the total number of races this season to 13.
However, during the months of April and May, as F1 was trying its level best to conduct the 2020 campaign, many would have wondered how this could have even been possible. Yet here we are, 3 races in, scheduled to get more than half the amount of races in a regular season, with more to come(hopefully).
The next set of races will see a double-header held at the Silverstone circuit. And according to the track’s Managing Director, Stuart Pringle, the track could have hosted up to a dozen races this season!

Or at least they wanted to if it ensured a proper season of racing.
Silverstone offered to host 12 races for the 2020 F1 calendar
Speaking to Autosport.com, Pringle said, “We said we’ll support however we can – within the grounds of reasonableness. At one stage we offered to make the track available for a period of months.
“If they could get a championship away from one location – at one stage it looked like nothing could happen and the answer was, ‘Ship in the Italian teams and Swiss team, and the Pirelli guys, and park them at Silverstone for a couple of months.
“Run 12 races around Silverstone and make television if that’s what you need?’,”

However, a calendar with races being held at only one track would have made it pretty boring according to Pringle, so that idea was shelved.
Nevertheless, he said, “They came back and said, ‘Actually two (would) be quite helpful’.” And that’s how the British double-header came into being.
Moreover, that is where the F1 circus will be moving to in a week’s time. Silverstone is a track where Mercedes have dominated in the past 5 years, and they’ll be hoping to continue that trend in 2020 as well.
