The 2.7 miles-long and twisty track at the Red Bull backyard provided the excitement and thrill that the spectators had been expecting. Although Esteban Ocon of Alpine endured taking the brunt of the Stewards’ wrath this week at the Spielberg, several other drivers also found themselves on the receiving end of their fury. Likewise, Sir Lewis Hamilton was caught up in Lando Norris‘ prophecy, which came true in the race’s aftermath. So what was the Brit’s prophecy?
Lewis Hamilton was one of the scapegoats in the race, littered with penalties for going above the track limits. Aiming to challenge the Ferraris, the Mercedes ace qualified fifth in the quali. However, it quickly became clear that Lando Norris’ upgraded MCL60 was giving some challenges to Hamilton’s struggling W-14, which the 38-year-old claimed, “can’t keep it on the track. The car won’t turn.”
While Hamilton was cruising through lap after lap, fellow competitor Norris was keeping an eye on everything he did. The 23-year-old noticed Hamilton veer off the track many times, which the young British driver had been moaning about frequently, and the papaya army made sure to bring it to the attention of the FIA. And soon after being shown the black-and-white flag, Hamilton received a 5-second time penalty.

Although at that point Norris believed Hamilton had escaped with a lesser punishment and that the 38-year-old deserved more, something he later made a prophecy of in the post-race interview at the Skysportsf1. He said, “Yeah, I was going to do a live commentary at every corner, pretty much.” Later, while taking a jibe at FIA’s decision, he made a prophecy and said, “He only got a five-second penalty? It should be way more! He had about four strikes in one lap!”
His prediction came true when the seven-time champion received a second 5-second penalty as the Stewards while examining other incidents on the track, discovered the Briton’s repeated track-limit violations which eventually impacted his standing as now Hamilton falls place behind teammate George Russell.
What actually happened at the Austrian GP was not what the German manufacturers would have expected. However, in addition to his frustration with the W-14’s poor performance on the track, there were some additional factors that made Hamilton furious. So what exactly happened?

While chasing the podiums Hamilton was overtaken by Norris and while himself being handed 5 second-time penalty, the Mercedes maestro on the later laps maintained a tight eye on the McLaren driver. As the race progressed, Hamilton repeatedly brought up Norris’s infractions of the track limit, but his efforts were ineffective. The Red Bull driver, Sergio Perez, was the subject of similar complaints. However, neither of the two drivers received a fine.
This made the 38-year-old frustrated, and he even said on the team’s radio, ” Just have a look at those because some of those are bull**** calls.” Even after the race, his stance didn’t change as he told race fans, “He was going off so much, it was insane. As soon as he got past me, he went off like at least 10 times and so did Perez. Perez would go off turn nine, turn 10, and he didn’t get a penalty. So obviously they should just be able to go off and none of us get a penalty.”
