Lando Norris might’ve driven his “best race of the year” yesterday, but sadly the Brit does not have anything to show for it. Norris was competitive throughout the weekend, but his misfortunes did not leave his side. Firstly, the debacle in qualifying left him kicking himself and left him wondering what could have. However, his misery worsened in the race. The Brit was forced out of points and demoted to 13th despite crossing the finish line 9th on the road. Why? For “unsportsmanlike conduct” during the safety car period after George Russell’s crash. Now, the furious McLaren man has lashed out at the stewards and made a bizarre suggestion.
The Brit was given a five-second penalty for significantly slowing down during the safety car period. The stewards claim Norris did so to create a considerable gap to allow a smooth double stacking, with Oscar Piastri entering the pits before him. However, the stewards noted the intentional gap and penalized him based on his dashcam footage. After the incident, Norris lashed out and made a bizarre suggestion as quoted by Motorsport-Total.
“I was only told three seconds before the box that I should come to the stop. At that point I was flat out, so it doesn’t make any sense to me,” he says and explains: “There are many moments when you’re under VSC drives slowly.” (Translated by Google)

Despite the favorable conditions of the Circuit de Gilles Villeneuve, McLaren has come up empty-handed. The team is suffering through one of the worst starts to a season. Although McLaren has made a habit of that with the past couple of seasons as proof. A narrative about the Woking outfit needs to change but requires a plethora of upgrades to change.
“It’s not that it’s not clear how to improve it. It’s still a lot of work to improve it and a lot of time. I think it’s very clear,” said Norris. “It shows how track-dependent or track characteristic biased it is, temperature biased as well. If it was a much colder day, our performance for sure, 100% would’ve been much better, relative to other teams. I’m sure they would’ve done better but we would’ve taken a bigger step.”
