F1 star Sergio Perez believes social media is an evil boon and people should learn to manage their way around it. While he agrees to the fact that it is a solid medium to interact with friends and family, but he firmly believes that it has its downsides. His opinions on the subject align with fellow driver Sebastian Vettel who still manages to shut the noise on these interactive platforms.
More recently, Williams F1 driver Nicholas Latifi put out an emotional statement addressing the online abuse directed towards him following his crash in the Abu Dhabi GP. Formerly isolated incidents like these are now becoming a norm on social media. Notably, Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz denied taking any stance on championship prediction citing the polarization on social media.
On similar lines, Perez said that he is not a big fan of social media. Moreover, he believes that the amount of time that people waste on it is unacceptable.

Sergio Perez shares opinion on social media platforms
The Red Bull star had a solid 2021 F1 season with the Milton Keynes-based team. The Mexican driver’s defense in Abu Dhabi was a treat to all the F1 fans. In a podcast named “The Edge”, Perez discussed various aspects of racing and his off-track life. When the host asked the Mexican if he switches off from the social media to shut the distracting noise, he had a straightforward answer.
“Yeah! I think social media has become too much in the last couple of years. I don’t think just for a sportsman even for normal people. The amount of time that we spent during a day is just unacceptable,” said the Mexican star.
“So I’m not a big fan of it, I have to say. I think it’s a great tool, as a sportsman to engage with your fans but there has to be a limit and a balance. So yeah, I think it’s important to control the amount of time and minimize it, not just as a sportsman, as a normal human being,” he added.

The Mexican has an official handle on Twitter and Instagram among others. However, he is not as active as many other drivers. Though Checo says he is not a fan of social media, his fellow driver Sebastian Vettel is a step ahead in his distance to the social platforms. Vettel is one of the biggest names in F1 with four world titles under his belt.
He is an iconic social figure but remains absent from every social media platform. The German took this firm stance to separate his personal and professional life and his reasoning is quite similar to that of Perez.
