Can Sergio Perez outshine Daniel Ricciardo and secure his place in F1's elite?

What better to celebrate 20 years of Red Bull, than to be present at the iconic Goodwood Festival of Speed? As the events reach their last day, the entire Red Bull squad huddles up to commemorate their China jubilee. The celebration began with the launching of Red Bull’s RB17 hypercar, in the presence of its birth-giver Adrian Newey. The following day, Newey paid a heartfelt tribute to Niki Lauda by driving his championship-winning Ferrari 312 T4. What a memorable moment!

Now adding more glam to the auspicious occasion, F1 drivers – Max Verstappen, Sergio Perez, and Daniel Ricciardo have also joined the party. Despite career highs and lows, Perez exuded energy at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. On July 14, spectators spotted him driving the Red Bull Ford Supervan, boasting a 2050 hp engine for road dominance. The Mexican, satisfied with his debut at FOS with Red Bull, shared optimistic views on future projects with Ford and Red Bull.

“First time ever [to drive in Goodwood], the last time I went to Goodwood was with McLaren, but I think I only did the show run,” Perez admitted. He looked satisfied with the machine he drove. Thus stated: “[Celebrating 20th anniversary of Red Bull Racing], also with Ford, it’s incredible. The powertrain is a massive project down the line, so I’m looking forward to the future with Red Bull.”

Perez seems optimistic about his future at Red Bull. That’s an astoundingly positive attitude. However, can he completely deny he is not worried about his once-confirmed seat? Pretty sure, no. However, his presence at the FOS speaks volumes of his importance to the team. Red Bull is probably willing to give Perez a few more chances and he must deliver, or else Daniel Ricciardo would be in the RB20 in no time.

Doomsday for Sergio Perez could be near as Daniel Ricciardo continues to breathe down his neck

Consistency is not a cakewalk in F1. Even world champions have fumbled in their careers. But with Sergio Perez, things are pretty difficult. First, his teammate is Max Verstappen who never fails to ‘serve’ in the races, and second, the pressure he feels being in Red Bull’s second seat. Over the last couple of races, Checo has been at his lowest. For an experienced driver like him, losing ground isn’t a good sign. Given his extended contract with Red Bull, stress continues to build up.

Meanwhile, VCARB No.2 Daniel Ricciardo seems to be having an actual comeback into the sport he once dominated. The ‘Honey Badger’ has been doing well. His prospects of returning to Red Bull alongside Max Verstappen have never looked this bright. And to resist this transfer, Checo must gear up. He is capable of giving memorable races to his fans across the globe. If he doesn’t do it in the upcoming races, then this summer break could be his last with Red Bull.
