Although Perez had a huge role to play in his teammate winning the title, the 32-year-old was still not on pace with the Dutchman. But as the new season dawns, the Mexican driver promises he will be much stronger in the second year with Red Bull.
Sergio Perez is confident ahead of the 2022 season
As things stand, it looks like Red Bull is the fastest team going into the first race of the season. Both the drivers of the Austrian team topped the timing sheets on the closing day of the official pre-season testing in Bahrain. Seeing the impressive pace of his new RB18, Checo has now disclosed his plans for the upcoming season.
“I think I’m just going to get stronger now,” he says. “I’m working for it every day. So hopefully this year I can have another gear,” said Sergio. He mentioned he had sacrificed a lot throughout his life and career to get this opportunity. But he keeps a positive outlook as he mentioned he does not like to look back on his regrets.

“I know what I have done, what my family has done, and we’re proud. But I’m not the type of guy to run around screaming about it, that’s just boring. Everyone has their own story, their own life, and at the end of the day, we’re here because we want to be here: to race; to compete; to deliver. I’ve had a fantastic career and I still want to achieve a lot more in this sport,” the Mexican concluded.
It would be interesting to see if Checo can outperform Verstappen this season. If Red Bull have a fast car, it is not a sure-shot guarantee they will prefer Perez over Verstappen.
