It looked all over for Sergio Perez when Racing Point sacked him earlier this season for 2021 and beyond. He was pushed to the extent of taking a sabbatical for 2021. However, in a sudden turn of events, the Mexican has finally received a golden opportunity to revive his title-winning hopes.
Perez will join the Red Bull Racing team under a one-year contract for the 2021 season, lining up alongside the flying Dutchman, Max Verstappen. This is definitely a star-studded line-up, and all eyes will be on the potential hard battle between the two drivers, going into next year.

Red Bull Racing is the fifth team Perez will be racing for. The other teams were Sauber, McLaren, Force India, and finally Racing Point.
Incredible 2020 season earns Sergio Perez a Red Bull seat
Ever since Perez was left out of the grid for 2021, fans were distraught to see the in-form driver being shown the door. The seats were filling up fast and his chances of hanging onto the grid for 2021 were diminishing.
He had Haas and Williams as options apart from the Red Bull, which looked unlikely at that time.
Yet, he chose to wait, while those two options drained away as well. In the end, he just had a handful of races to prove his worth to his last option, Red Bull. And he did that to perfection.
His incredible drives at the Turkish Grand Prix and Sakhir Grand Prix may have reignited the talks of his switch to Red Bull.

His 2020 season was unquestionably impressive. Despite missing out on two race weekends, the Mexican finished the season in P4, only behind the Mercedes cars and Verstappen.
Of course, he could have been much closer to the Dutchman if not for the strategy mishaps by Racing Point, and the untimely engine failures.

However, he would not be worried about the missed opportunities, as the Mexican will no longer drive for a mid-field team. Hence, he can clearly see more podium opportunities approaching him through the next season, and potentially beyond that too.
In the bigger picture, a Perez versus Max contest will be juicy combat. Can the Mexican give the undefeatable Red Bull teammate a tough time?
