Red Bull has launched their new Challenger RB18 for 2022. Sergio Perez was there during the launch. The 32-year-old expressed his excitement for the new season, new car, and new battle for glory about to start in a few weeks.

In an interview about the first season with the Austrian team, Sergio Perez has conveyed, “It was an intense season, getting up to speed with a new team, especially with a team fighting for a championship from race one, so there was no time for any adaptation. It was straight into it. But it was very enjoyable, and we gave it our all until the very last lap of the season.”
“It feels like we were in Abu Dhabi yesterday but on the other hand I’m so excited to start the new season. We’re already working a lot with the engineers, and we cannot wait to be on track with these new cars.” the former Force India driver further stated.

How did Sergio Perez fair at his first season with Red Bull?
The man from Mexico has adapted to his new team well. Usually, drivers who change teams tend to perform a little low in their first year. Taking most of the time to adapt to the new environment and car, performing at their best is a rare sight. However, things are different in the case of Sergio.

During the 2021 season, Perez managed to not only pick up multiple podiums for Red Bull but also added another race win to his name at Baku. The former Racing Point man has helped his team take the fight to Mercedes for the Constructor’s Championship. Notably, The Mexican’s brilliant battle with Lewis Hamilton at the last race of Abu Dhabi has made him earn immense respect from the fans.
Sergio held off Hamilton to give a cushion to Verstappen that helped the Dutchman win his maiden F1 title. On this, Max‘s race engineer, Gianpiero Lambiase, called him ‘an absolute animal’ whereas Verstappen praised ‘Checo is a legend.’

Nevertheless, it’ll be interesting to see how Perez performs in the season to come. Will he be able to surpass his first season, or lag behind in performance? Only time will tell.
