Sergio Perez Concedes Red Bull Indecision Could Force Him into an Unpleasant Choice

It must be extremely frustrating to be in the shoes of Sergio Perez. Despite an excellent season with Racing Point, Checo still finds himself without an F1 seat for next year. As things stand, it looks as though all his hopes are pinned on the second Red Bull seat.

Perez currently sits in sixth place on the Drivers’ championship standings with 82 points from 11 races. As such, if he were to find himself without an F1 drive for next year, Perez believes he’ll leave the sport as a content man with no hard feelings.

“It is not the first time that situations like the one I am experiencing today have occurred, it is part of Formula 1.

“But I am still privileged if I think I have been in this championship for many years, and if it will be my last year, I am I will go with pride and with the certainty of having deserved what I have had.”

The Milton Keynes-based outfit have made it evidently clear that they aren’t in any sort of rush to confirm their second driver for next season.

While this may be a good idea for Red Bull, considering that it gives them enough time to weigh all the alternative drivers whilst waiting on Albon to come good, it’s definitely a bane for Perez. With the 2020 season soon drawing to an end, there’s hardly any time to wait.

Perez said, “We are not that far from the season to end, so definitely I have to know my plans. I need to know what will happen in my side to be able to plan everything.

“Everything is so late now it looks like I will know whether I continue in Formula 1 or not quite late in the year. So I think a sabbatical, it’s an option. We’ll see what happens in the next couple of weeks.”

For the Mexican, these two weeks will be an incredibly long and difficult time plagued with uncertainty. It would definitely be a shame if Checo fails to bag a drive for 2021.

The man has shown great consistency over the course of his career. He has shown that he has the talent and skills to win races, had he been in better machinery.

As an F1 fan, one can only hope that the best talent continues to stay on the grid.
