Lewis Hamilton is back! The 7-time world champion made his return to social media after an almost two-month-long silence. He had been silent over the social media platforms ever since losing the controversial title decider in Abu Dhabi to Max Verstappen.

Hamilton shared a picture of himself enjoying his visit to the Grand Canyon. He wrote in the caption that he is back, which would indicate that he will race in the upcoming 2022 season.

“I’ve been gone. Now I’m back!” wrote Lewis. His fans all over the world welcomed the news of the return. Some celebrities and athletes rejoiced in the news and took to social media.

Long-time Lewis Hamilton supporter and tennis superstar, Serena Williams replied to the Mercedes driver’s story. “ I love you brother very much,” said Serena. Many other celebrities like Sophie Turner, JJ Lin, and Naomi Schiff also expressed their excitement over the news.

Why did Lewis Hamilton stay silent on social media?

As reported by Sky News, the 7-time world champion lost the 2021 championship controversially. He was leading the season-finale from start to finish, but a late safety car and a controversial decision by the FIA race director caught Lewis out.

He was a sitting duck when his title rival, Max Verstappen, passed him to win the championship. The Mercedes driver had mentioned on his team radio that race director Michael Masi had manipulated the rules.

There were several reports that the British driver might not even return to the sport after the race. Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff frequently mentioned the pain and the disappointment that Hamilton was feeling about the event.
