The first sprint weekend of the 2022 season did spring a few surprises. Red Bull completely dominated on the circuit owned by the rivals Ferrari and closed the gap between them in the constructors’ championship. But the most surprising part was to see the resurgence of Sebastian Vettel and Aston Martin this weekend.
The 4-time world champion showed all of his class and experience during the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix weekend. In the mix conditions on Friday qualifying, he put his Aston Martin in the top 10 of the grid. But he fell back in the dry conditions of the Sprint race on Saturday.
Let us not forget that Sebastian Vettel put 44 laps on those Medium tyres, the most by any driver today, and dragged the 9th-10th best car of the grid to P8. Didn’t put a foot wrong the whole race.

The results at Imola will indeed be a boost for the team going forward this season. But it is still unclear whether the double points finish was circumstantial and a one-off or a true sign of their progress.
