The 2021 season saw Sebastian Vettel finally leave Ferrari and make the switch to the newly rebranded Aston Martin. Their first season together promised a lot but was majorly underwhelming. Some notable highlights from their season were are the podium in Baku and the podium in Hungary, which was later stripped. Despite that, the team and Vettel managed to lift one award in their debut campaign together.

Most Overtakes in 2021

Sebastian Vettel won the inaugural Crypto.com Overtake Award. The 4-time world champion managed 132 overtakes 4 more than fellow veteran Fernando Alonso, who had 128.

Seb was ecstatic to receive the award. However, he seems much happier receiving a jar full of jellybeans, which has something to do with his radio message from the Abu Dhabi GP. When told that he has won the Crypto.com Overtake Award, Vettel jokingly asked if the prize for winning the award was a million jellybeans.

Seb, in typical Seb fashion, questioned the team about the jar, he said: “is it actually a million though?”. Vettel is convinced that crypto.com sold him short on the jellybeans.

The new season brings a new era to F1 this year. The total regulation changes have provided the teams a chance to catch up to the front of the grid or turn the current order on its head. Aston Martin and Vettel will also be eying this as their chance to fight at the front for wins and podiums.

The team enjoyed decent testing in Bahrain with the duo of Vettel and Lance Stroll completing 369 laps between them. This season is the team’s first real test after they shifted their main focus to developing their 2022 car in 2021 itself.
