Sebastian Vettel Hopes to Follow His German Role Model After Final Bow in F1: “It Was Practically Silent…”

Elegant, charming, and funny are just a few of the many great traits of Sebastian Vettel. The 4-time world champion announced that he will be retiring at the end of the current campaign. His passion and affection for Formula 1 racing are eternal. However, the German revealed that he would like to follow his role model and step aside from the sport after retiring.

The Aston Martin driver has been in some form post F1’s summer break. After impressive races in Singapore and Japan, Vettel’s good run of form came to a break in Mexico.

Sebastian Vettel also explained how he would like to stay away from F1. Furthermore, he also stated that he would like to follow the path of his role model, Stefan Raab. Raab was a popular German TV figure. When he announced his retirement from the German TV fray, he was practically out of the equation from the next day.

In an interview with Der Spiegel, Seb said, “If you liked doing something, you can also be attached to it. But I want to go the other way, detach myself and find out: ‘There are enough other exciting things, I manage to open the next door and find my happiness there.‘”

He further gave the instance of his role model Raab citing, “He was so omnipresent in the German television landscape, announced that he was going to stop – and then it was practically silent from one day to the next.”

Vettel is currently 11th in the driver’s championship and would be looking to finish above Valtteri Bottas at P10. He’ll also race in his last-ever Brazilian GP next weekend.

With only 2 races left on the calendar in Brazil and Abu Dhabi, Sebastian Vettel will look to enjoy every moment of it. The former Red Bull driver will call time on a glorious 15-year career at the pinnacle of the motorsport.

He also admitted that he would miss the rush of adrenaline once he retires. The German has had some astonishing finishes to the race with Fernando Alonso and Kevin Magnussen in recent weeks.

Sebastian said before the US GP, “It is getting a little bit more real. At Suzuka, I was a bit sad after qualifying and Sunday was a little bit up and down and mixed emotions because the race was so different. It’s a special place and I will miss it.”

“I don’t know how Abu Dhabi will be. Obviously, from a results point of view I don’t think we expect miracles all of a sudden, but I also tend to look forward to what’s next.”
