At the Belgian Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso were involved in a lap 1 shunt. Alonso came onto the radio with a berating rant about Hamilton’s history of starting from the front and his apparent inability to battle with other cars. Sebastian Vettel has now hit out at the Spaniard for his comments about Hamilton.

Vettel explained, “But I think we are aware of the fact that radio calls are public and I think it was a very disrespectful comment.”

He went on to further rationalize his views by saying, “Lewis is one of the fairest drivers on the grid, I don’t think he had any intentions to be unfair and did a mistake. We all do mistakes, even Fernando sometimes does mistakes.”

In the aftermath of the whole radio rant, Alonso apologized for his comments. He also said, “Lewis is a champion, he’s a legend of our time.”

However, he contextualized his comments by explaining, “And then when you say something – and I’m sorry to repeat this – against a British driver, there is huge media involvement after that.”

Further, the official Twitter account of Mercedes shared a picture of the two, with Alonso holding a signed cap from the 7-time World Champion. The post was captioned, “Look who stopped by.”
