If you were to rank the 20 drivers on the grid based on their performance last season, chances are that most of you would pick Sebastian Vettel dead last. It is because he had a tumultuous time with Ferrari in 2020.

And because of it, he is facing a lot of detractors now. A lot more now, than a few seasons ago, when he was still contending for the F1 World Title at Ferrari. But most believe that his time as a championship-level driver is past him now.

Though, that hasn’t deterred the confidence of Sebastian Vettel. He comes with an impeccable self-belief to Aston Martin. At 33 years of age, he still feels that he has a lot to offer.

“I still have the ability to win world titles,” proclaimed the German.

“It’s not a question of age either. I feel that I still have a few good years ahead of me. But we are still at the very beginning of a long journey. Aston Martin is a long-term project for me.”

Sebastian Vettel is looking forward to the famed Mercedes engine

Unfortunately for Vettel, his new team didn’t have the luxury to provide him with a test drive of their old-spec car. So, he hasn’t been able to test out their power unit, Mercedes. For a person who has never driven a car with a Mercedes engine behind the back of his car, that will definitely prove to be an exciting experience.

But even more so because they have been the class-leading ones in the turbo-hybrid era. While Ferrari somewhat bested them in 2019, they came back with a more relentless one in 2020.

“I’m excited to see how the Mercedes engine works, breathes, and is operated. In terms of performance, we’ve only heard good things over the past few years, I’m excited,” Vettel remarked.

“It is of course difficult to make a comparison with the previous year because from one year to the next I haven’t been in the car for a long time, but: If the engine is really that good, you’ll notice that too.”

Hopefully, the former Red Bull racer has a blast driving the AMR21. If it is anywhere close to as good as it looks in terms of performance, he will definitely be in pole position to recapture his old form.
