Former F1 driver Ralf Schumacher believes things are dangerously close to reaching the breaking point between Sebastian Vettel and Ferrari. Schumacher fears Ferrari may even ask Vettel to stop driving for the team before the end of the season.

For years now, Sebastian Vettel has defended Ferrari during the team’s difficult times. Despite poor car development and questionable strategic calls, Vettel never blamed the Italian team.

But that appears to be changing in the 2020 season.

Ferrari and Sebastian Vettel: A relationship broken beyond repair?

Schumacher is wary of Vettel’s public outbursts potentially spiraling out of control. In a column on Sky Germany, he wrote:

“I am curious to see whether the atmosphere between Vettel and Ferrari will get so bad that the team will take Vettel out of the cockpit and recommend him stop.

“Internally, a higher level of escalation will certainly have been reached than we are aware of in public. Accordingly, the carefree interaction with each other. But I can’t imagine it yet! I hope it won’t turn out like that either.

“The next few weeks will show where we are headed.” (Translated by Google Translate)

Ever since he caught wind of his exit from the team, Vettel’s comments appear to be carefree without too much concern about how it reflects on the team.

Before the first race of the season, Vettel openly revealed that Ferrari never made him an offer for next year despite the team calling his departure a “mutual” split.

Most recently, at the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix, Vettel publicly admonished his team on the radio for messing up his race strategy.

After the race, Vettel expressed his displeasure and pointed out many flaws in Ferrari’s strategy calls during the race.

It’s hard to blame the 4-time World Champion, considering he’s stuck with a car that appears to be a handful. Moreover, he has little to lose with a team that’ll mean nothing to him from next year.
