The 2021 championship season gave birth to one of the greatest rivalries in the sport’s history. However, the subsequent years have not lived up to the billing. Max Verstappen eased past him toward the 2022 championship title as Lewis Hamilton watched on helplessly. The story is looking to repeat itself in 2023 as well. However, despite the W14’s shortcomings, it’s the ease at which Verstappen is passing Hamilton which was a concerning fixture. Hamilton voiced his opinion on the same. However, ahead of the Australian GP, Fernando Alonso decided to stir the pot and remind “old” Hamilton of the past.

Ever since 2007, the two teammates have had a tumultuous relationship. Alonso. The rivalry was Hamilton’s first and the racing between the two inspired many. Since 2007, the two have hardly seen eye to eye.

The Spaniard proved that again when he dissed Hamilton’s comments about the pace of the RB19. For context, Hamilton said the RB19 is “the fastest car I’ve seen” including the dominating Mercedes cars. Alonso recently ridiculed Hamilton’s comments in his conversation with L’Equipe quoted by Crash.net.

“I don’t agree at all,” said Alonso, disagreeing with Hamilton. “Last week [in Saudi Arabia] I finished 20 seconds behind Checo and Max [Verstappen]. He and [Nico] Rosberg were a minute ahead in 2014 and 2015… He has a short memory, he’s getting old!”

If people think the rivalry between the two is dead, this should be proof enough. It was sedentary at best, but now that Alonso is among the top in the grid, he might not mind reigniting the fire once more. If anyone is keeping count, it’s Alonso 1, Hamilton 0.
