Is Carlos Sainz just all talk, or does he have what it takes to back it up?

It’s not going well for Carlos Sainz ever since Ferrari dropped him. In February this year, the Scuderia announced they would replace the Spaniard with Lewis Hamilton. At that time, Sainz promised his followers that he would reveal his future steps soon. However, months have passed, and the 29-year-old has stayed silent about which team he might go to next. Meanwhile, other racers are waiting on Sainz to start the F1 silly season for 2025. As no news has come yet, Sauber driver Zhou Guanyu has questioned what is taking Carlos so long.

With several drivers’ contracts coming to an end this year, the F1 grid will look very different next season. As of now, the racers who will need to find seats for their ’25 campaign include Carlos Sainz, Valtteri Bottas, Kevin Magnussen, Logan Sargeant, Esteban Ocon, and Daniel Ricciardo. And there are six spots up for grabs at the various teams. But what seems to be holding up a huge silly season for next year is the fact that Carlos Sainz has not yet decided which team he will pick.

Former F2 podium-holder Zhou Guanyu debuted in Formula 1 with Alfa Romeo in 2022. The Chinese retained his contract with the team when they became Sauber ahead of the 2024 season. But as the Swiss outfit looks all set to remodel into Audi from 2026 onward, they are expected to drop Guanyu at the end of this year’s Abu Dhabi GP. However, the 25-year-old has not decided which F1 team to go to next. When asked what he was waiting for, he took a jibe at Sainz for holding up the drivers’ market.

Speaking about the delay in Carlos Sainz’s choice of a future squad, Zhou Guanyu spoke to Formule1, complaining, “How hard can the decision be now? It’s not like he can choose teams that are fighting for the title anymore – only the midfield teams are left. I don’t know what he’s thinking, but all we can do is keep waiting for him, nothing more.” Meanwhile, Carlos Sainz has pushed away all questions he got about his F1 team pick for 2025 at the pre-race press conference before the British GP. What did the Spaniard say about his future F1 career?

Carlos Sainz takes no notice of the growing speculations about his future move

With his exit from Ferrari, Carlos Sainz will be jobless until he finds himself a seat for the next season. However, the Spaniard seems quite nonchalant about it. Sainz emphasized that whenever he reached a decision, the media would be informed first, but till the time nothing was decided, he would prefer not to comment. “I have decided not to talk about my future anymore until I make the decision, which you will be the first to know,” the 29-year-old said.

Even though Carlos Sainz has made no indications regarding his future F1 team pick, he did appreciate Alpine advisor Flavio Briatore’s words. The Italian has made a comeback to Formula 1 after several years and wants to get his team, Alpine, to the top of the scoreboard. And for this, he believes hiring Carlos Sainz is the key. Reacting to this, the #55 racer has said, “I thank Flavio for his words. Because they come from someone who has been here for a long time and has seen great drivers.”
