The 2023 calendar has been a different journey for each team, filled with highs and lows throughout the season! Unfortunately for Aston Martin, the rollercoaster they’re on has been relentless. From being the second fastest at the season-opener to free-falling down the standings. After the Dutch Grand Prix, the Silverstone outfit had begun to lose pace while Mclaren was just getting started with their campaign. Having to surrender the 4th spot in the standings to the Papaya Army, Lawrence Stroll was left questioning the longevity of his project!

Failing to carry the little momentum they had gained in Qatar, their ace driver, Fernando Alonso, had to retire from the US GP. As if it couldn’t get worse for Aston Martin, their drivers suffered from a double retirement at the Mexican Grand Prix, which left Lawrence Stroll, an unhappy man. It didn’t help the two-time champion’s bid to win races either, forcing the Spaniard to relive his reliability woes from the past. However, Alonso and Lance Stroll‘s stand-out performance at the Sao Paulo GP has resulted in a boost to the team’s morale.

It looks like every member of Aston Martin has taken Lawrence Stroll’s disappointment with the team to their hearts. Hoping to bring some positivity into the garage, Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll put their AMR23s on the second row, securing a mighty fine starting position for the race on Sunday! The Spaniard reflected on the team’s comeback after a difficult few weeks. Speaking to SkySportsF1, Alonso shared, “I think the last two Grand Prix we were (a little bit) experimenting and we were starting from the pit lane, all these kinds of things.”

Alonso was delighted that the team’s recent struggles were finally being overtaken by some good news. He commented on the importance of the second-row lockout,So we needed a nice result here in Brazil, for both cars to give back some hope to the team. (It’s) Proof that we understood a few things, and we are quite competitive. So this proves that we know what are doing, and I am happy with that”

They find themselves trailing McLaren by 20 points heading into the Sao Paulo GP. With Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri in P7 and P10 respectively, Aston Martin could take the fight back to the Papaya Army on race day!

Alonso shoots down Red Bull rumors after promising  major ‘consequences’

After hearing what Alonso had to say, it’s safe to assume that the Spaniard’s confidence in the Silverstone outfit has not fallen prey to their shortcomings. This was allegedly not the case however, as a credited Spanish journalist, Albert Fabrega shared cryptic tweets which were interpreted by fans and the media to have something to do with Alonso moving to Red Bull or choosing to retire at the end of the season. While Helmut Marko denied these rumors, suggesting that it was the two-time champion himself who had put the media on this trail!

However, Fernando Alonso has furiously shut down these rumors. Known for his clever use of the media to his advantage, the tables were turned on him this time around. With added pressure due to the rumors, the Spaniard was seemingly unhappy with the media. During the Brazilian GP conference on Thursday, Alonso made his stance on the matter clear.”I will make sure that there are consequences” – sending an open message to those responsible for the rumors. Alonso was straight to the point, he was not fond of the media creating a story for attention when there was no evidence to the matter.

But Alonso’s unusually aggressive response sparks a bigger question. Why would Alonso go out of his way to dismiss rumors that are a usual occurrence? Could it mean that something is going on behind the scenes? After all, it’s not unlike Red Bull to up the shock factor every time fans get comfortable with their driver lineup.
